The Merging Of Radio, Television, Communications And The Internet With The Increase And Improvements In Digitisation

The merging of different technologies is a trend occuring at an astounding rate.
When people buy a personal computer, they purchase a modem and connect to a phone line to access the internet. Similarly telephones have become a data entry terminal into computer systems where organisations are asking individuals to make choices using the keypad.

Advances and cost reductions in processing speeds, storage capacities, miniturisation, file compression and the speed of electrical components have made the use of digital data and distribution more affordable. Digital data is represented in the form of digits or numbers and is used by computer technology. The digitisation of data provides the opportunity to use computer technology and make extensive use of multimedia feasible.

The use of streaming technology means that live entertainment can be delivered over computer networks. As data connection speeds increase, both the quality and range of applications for data streaming will increase. Radio, television and internet are converging. Many television shows, movies and radio stations are now available to be streamed over the internet, or downloaded from places such as Itunes. Advances in technology and costs reductions in processing speeds mean that the use of digital data is more affordable. The digitisation provides the opportunity to have the computer as a form of entertainment more feasible.
